Alcohol and Substance Use/Misuse

Alcohol, Drugs and other Addictive Behaviors

I work sensitively and openly with people who struggle with or feel confused by their relationship with drugs or alcohol. Some people wonder why they had that drink when they said they wouldn’t, some wonder how come they can’t have fun or have sex without using drugs, others can’t imagine talking to someone without having a cigarette or drink in their hand. Whatever the case may be, my interest is in supporting you and helping you understand what is happening without shame. I believe people are drawn to addictive behaviors because at one time or another they brought relief, excitement or gave a person a break from the chaos, and maybe even helped a person to survive emotionally or physically. There is also a strong link between addictive behavior and trauma. Together we can explore what is at the core of these behaviors and discover a way to move forward that is in alignment with your values and goals. I utilize a motivational enhancement approach in addressing these concerns and may incorporate other strategies including harm reduction and EMDR.
